Tom Wilke was born in 1946. From a young age he was involved in art, one way or another, whether it was doing graphite drawings, soap carvings, or furniture painting. However, recently (the last 5 years or so) he started to take brush and paint to canvas and before long it became a life- defining passion as opposed to a hobby.
Tom works mainly in acrylics but also uses pastels and watercolors. Mostly self taught, stylistically and technique wise he enjoys the challenges of photo realism, but has tendencies towards more impressionistic renderings. He hails from the rolling hills of southern Ohio but has lived on the west coast of Florida for the last 21 years. He draws inspiration from the lush landscapes and waterways that living in Florida afford.
He has won awards and ribbons in various art shows and competitions and has sold many of his works. Tom continues toward being the best he can be and aspires to the adage that “Art is ten per cent inspiration and ninety per cent perspiration.”
